1. What is a CT Scanner?
Computed Tomography (CT) scanning provides more complete information than the standard x-ray. By combining pictures taken from multiple angles, CT can produce precise, cross-sectional images of bones, organs and soft tissue, making it a valuable diagnostic tool for physicians. 2. Why do we need a CT scanner?
CT really is the “gold standard” for diagnosing serious illnesses and injuries related to the heart, abdomen, head and chest. Quick and easy access to CT exam is an expectation of medical practitioners to avoid delays in diagnosis and initiation of treatment. Our region has no local access to CT. Patients must go to larger centres such as Guelph, Kitchener, Orangeville or as far as Walkerton. Wait time varies and can be as long as eight-twelve weeks. 3. Why is this campaign important?
The fundraising campaign will enable Groves Memorial Community Hospital to purchase a CT scanner and a portable to house the unit. 3. Can the CT scanner be moved to the new hospital?
Yes, the CT service will move to the new hospital when it is constructed. 4. Doesn’t the government provide equipment for our hospitals?
We have approval from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC) to purchase, install and operate the CT. However, the MOHLTC does not provide capital dollars to purchase the equipment and the hospital must incorporate operating dollars into its existing budget. 5. How will Groves pay for the operating cost?
The cost of operating the CT will come out of the hospital’s operating budget combined with revenue received from other Hospitals to perform CT Scans for their patients.
6. Why can’t you use the funds raised for the new Hospital?
The intent is to maintain those funds in trust until the new hospital is built. Having that capital is one more way to prove to the Ministry of Health that we are ready for their approval of a new hospital. 7. Why am I important?
Charitable contributions make achieving our goal possible. Your participation affects the quality of life of our community. Each gift, no matter the amount, is important. For More information contact Groves Hospital Foundation at |
