NEW CT SCANNER IN PLACE AT GROVES; FUNDED BY COMMUNITY
Fergus, ON…
Groves Memorial Community Hospital’s new CT scanner has now officially been installed and is ready for use following a highly successful community fundraising campaign. Last April, Groves Hospital Foundation was tasked with raising $2M to fund the new CT unit. They announced they had officially achieved their goal earlier this year, ahead of schedule. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Monday, March 3rd to celebrate the successful completion of the fundraising campaign and the new CT’s arrival at GMCH.
“The new Siemens CT machine provides high resolution images at minimal dose, faster testing, and includes the integration of artificial intelligence to improve image quality. It is also designed to accommodate bariatric patients. The new machine offers dual energy. This new technology uses both the normal X-ray and a second less powerful X-ray to make the images. This approach provides additional advantages over standard CT by allowing for a wider range of tests and procedures while providing better pictures,” shared Rob Young, Ambulatory Care & Diagnostic Imaging Manager – Wellington Health Care Alliance (WHCA).
The hospital and Foundation expressed their gratitude to the 621 donors who made this historic moment possible. In 2024, nearly 7,000 CT scans were run at GMCH; demonstrating how integral having a state-of-the-art, fully operational machine is for patient care delivery at the rural facility. The catchment of Groves Hospital continues to climb with the ongoing population growth of the service area.
CT scans are essential in diagnosing a variety of conditions, such as: internal injuries from car accidents, chest pain or extremity pain that could indicate blood clots, as well as monitoring or detecting cancer. The new CT scanner will offer enhanced image quality and more precise data, aiding physicians in making accurate diagnoses. Additionally, this new advanced scanner uses lower radiation doses, which is safer for patients.
“CT imaging is of critical importance in our care delivery as the demand and complexity of radiological imaging continues to increase. Our new CT equipment will position us with the latest in technology as well as providing much needed efficiency and reliability. This will be of great benefit to many patients. Thank you to our community for supporting our new CT with your generous donations,” finished Young.
